Boy! Consanguinity is the word of the day

Consanguinity as the dictionary explains is anything such as close relationship or connection or
relationship by descent from a common ancestor; kinship (distinguished from affinity).

All kinds of ilks Have had us to believe Consanguinity came to English in the 1300s. It is derived from Latin word sanguis meaning “blood.”

In medical orb consanguinity is related to many if not all causes of genetic or birth fefects!

A major birth defect is one of medical, surgical or cosmetic significance. Chromosomal abnormalities affect approximately 1 in 200 newborn infants.Consanguineous marriages occur in most populations. It is a customary practice in the Middle East, in parts of South Asia and Southeast Asia, and among many tribes in sub-Saharan Africa people who have migrated from these parts of the world to other countries may still practice consanguineous marriages. On a global basis, it is estimated that at least 20 percent of people live in communities with a preference for consanguineous marriage and that ≥8.5 percent of children have consanguineous parents!
