A new study in Science has found that linoleic acid, a type of fat found in many common cooking oils, may help breast cancer cells grow and spread more easily in the body.

Linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fat and is found in high amounts in oils like:

Sunflower oil Corn oil Soybean oil Safflower oil Cottonseed oil

This doesn’t mean these oils are harmful for everyone, but for those at risk or undergoing treatment, it’s a powerful reminder that diet plays a bigger role in cancer than we once thought. More research is ongoing, but this could change how we look at dietary fat in cancer care.
